Building dashboards that hold up
- Separate the shell from the pages
- Keep the sidebar and header in a layout component around <RouterView>, and make each dashboard screen its own route. Pages then load lazily and the shell stays mounted.
- Design loading and empty states
- Real dashboards spend time waiting for data and starting empty. Add skeletons and helpful empty states early, not after the API is wired up.
- Load charts lazily
- Charting libraries are large. Import chart components with defineAsyncComponent so they do not slow down the first screen.
- Persist the dark mode choice
- Class-based dark mode means you toggle a dark class on the html element. Store the choice and apply it before the app mounts to avoid a flash of the wrong theme.
